We’ve all looked longingly in the estate agents windows whilst we’re on holiday, be it home or abroad.
James Skidmore, Head of Mortgages at AAG, tells us why investing in a holiday home is becoming more popular.
“We’re seeing more clients investing in a holiday home, as they can prove to be more profitable in terms of rental yield than you would expect. And, they provide the added benefit of giving you and your family a place to get away to.”
Mortgage lenders will want to establish the expected rental income, so affordability will play a part in your application. But, there are examples of holiday lets providing twice the rental yield than that of a London buy to let.
“With holiday letting sites, such as Air B&B, it’s becoming more mainstream for people to make an income from a holiday home. However, there are pitfalls and lending criteria which need to be taken into consideration before you snap up that property by they sea, so you should certainly seek professional advice.”
Your home or other property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
